When it comes to Medicare, things can get a very overwhelming. That’s why we’re breaking it down in the simplest way possible—so you can feel confident and informed about your healthcare choices.

Let’s take a look at the 4 parts of Medicare and what each one covers.

Overview of the Four Parts of Medicare: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage).
Overview of the Four Parts of Medicare: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage).

Part A – Hospital Insurance

What it covers:

  • Inpatient hospital stays

  • Skilled nursing facility care

  • Hospice care

  • Some home health care

Think of Part A as "nursing care” coverage when you’re admitted to a hospital or care facility. Most people get it premium-free if they (or their spouse) worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.

Part B – Medical Insurance

What it covers:

  • Doctor visits

  • Outpatient care

  • Preventive services (like flu shots and screenings)

  • Durable medical equipment (like wheelchairs or walkers)

Part B is your everyday health coverage. It comes with a monthly premium and typically requires you to meet a yearly deductible before Medicare helps pay your costs. If your income is low enough, you may qualify for assistance from your state. Also, if your income is over a certain limit, you're required to pay more. Know where you stand!

Part C – Medicare Advantage

What it is:

  • An all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare (Parts A & B)

  • Offered by private insurance companies

  • Often includes Part D (drug coverage), vision, dental, hearing, and wellness perks

Medicare Advantage Plans can offer more comprehensive coverage, but come with their own networks, rules, and costs. At Asana Insurance Group, we help you compare plans that fit your health needs and budget. Give us a quick call!

Part D – Prescription Drug Coverage

What it covers:

  • Prescription medications

  • Can be added to Original Medicare

  • Often included in Medicare Advantage plans

Part D plans vary by coverage, cost, and drug formularies, so it’s important to review your prescriptions annually. Missing the enrollment window? You could face penalties later—so don’t delay!
